Skin is made up of three layers:- epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Epidermis is made up of cells called keratinocytes which is made up of keratin proteins. It protects the body against harmful viruses and infectious agents.
Dermis is made up of collagen and elastin which provides elasticity and strength to the skin. It contains hair follicles and sweat glands. Hypodermis is the sub-cutaneous tissue made up of fats and connective tissue. It stores food, acts as an insulation material and provides cushions.
