what precautions will you take while measuring body temperature with a clinical thermometer? Why does the mercury not fall or rise in a clinical thermometer when taken out from the mouth?
The precautions that should be taken while measuring temperature with a clinical thermometer are-
1.The thermometer should be washed before and after use.
2.A thermometer is delicate and should be handled with care to avoid breakage.
3.It should not be held by the bulb while reading the temperature.
4.While reading the thermometer, the level of mercury should be at the same level as the eye.
5.If the thermometer is to be used again, it is just first given a jerk to bring the mercury in the stem back into the bulb.
6.We should not press our teeth on the glass of the thermometer.
When the clinical thermometer is taken out of the mouth, the temperature neither rises nor fall because there is a kink in it which helps to avoid the back flow of mercury.
