What was the Duma? How far was it successful?

Dear Student,

a. Duma is a Russian Parliament / state assembly tasked with law making function and advisory role.
b. It was first created by Czar Nicholas II in 1906.
c. The Bloody Sunday event had really shaken the Czarist regime who agreed to set up a Russian Parliament or Duma, but soon he relapsed into his old methods.
d. While during the period of revolution, trade unions were allowed to exist , however as the movement subsided these groups, unions were banned.
e. Czar imposed restrictions on political activities and suspended the Duma,
f. Czar did not want anybody questioning his authority.
g. He suspended the first and Second  Duma within months ,as he saw it as a threat to his power, position and authority.
h. He  did not want to share power with any other body.
i In the third Duma, Czar  got conservatives in and kept  the liberals out of it as they opposed old traditional  institutions and argued against society based on privileges giving importance to merit.  This further created resentment.
j. Thus, Duma certainly was not a successful attempt .

Hope it helps

Duma was the lower house of the federal assembly of Russia. ✨It was extremely successful with positive results being shown in the first three months. ✨ However in the more long term, the Duma failed to run the affairs of the empire properly resulting in the Russian Revolution of 1917 when the Duma was dissolved.
