Which one among Na and Na+ would have more atomic size. Explain with reasons and solve.

Dear Student,

Na+ ion is formed after the removal of 1 electron from Na. Thus due to removal of electron effective nuclear charge of Na+ nucleus will increase and it will more strongly attract the remaining electrons towards it.
therefore overall radius will decrease.
As the positive charge increases, nuclear charge will increase and size will decrease as other electrons are coming closer to nucleus.
Na > Na+  (atomic size)

Note- a cation of an element is always smaller in size than its parent element and an anion is always larger in size than its parent element.
