- Birds and animals sometimes travel long distances from their habitat, to overcome unfavourable conditions during some seasons.
- This movement might also be a part of life cycle of some birds. This movement of animals and birds over long distances, in large numbers is called as migration.
- Migratory birds are the ones that migrate from one region to another during specific regions.
- Several bird species come into the category of migratory birds. For example, Siberian crane migrate to India in large numbers, during winter to escape harsh, cold winter conditions.
- This phenomenon is generally prevalent in the northern hemisphere
- Migratory birds follow specific routes and their destination for migration every season the same.
- Off late, migratory birds have been facing threats due to habitat destruction.
- So, the government must take steps to check habitat destruction and allocate appropriate resources for the same.
