Why does a resistor heat up on passing electric current through it

Dear Student ,
When current is supplied to a resistor, the energy of the current is transferred to the form of heat and as a result, resistor gets heated. The heating of resistor because of transformation of electrical energy is generally known as Heating Effect of Electric Current. And to calculate the heat produced due to current is given by a law called Joule's law of Heating .
